Quite a commotion was caused at Tuesday's Dorkbot DC when a protester disrupted the proceedings to air her grievances over perceived geographical prejudice in Maker Faire locations. Actually, it was Dorkbot DC stalwartly member Katie Bechtold and it was all in good fun. Maker Media's Brian Jepson, who recently moved to DC and was attending his first meeting, explained what we *are* doing to get more Maker Faire-type experiences to other cities (mini Maker Faires/Maker Squares, Make: City groups, American Maker, etc.).
I totally agree. I would really love an East coast Maker Faire. Not just a Maker Faire type experience the full thing. Austin and SF have great vibes that already support that kind of thing but there are many other places that do too. I live in Pittsburgh and I have been dying to go to the fair since the first but life always gets in the way and prevents me from making it to SF but just being able to drive over for a day or a weekend would make it so much easier for me and many others like me. So please think about it.

@gang - we are 100% trying to get maker faire in more places - we did the mini-maker faire in nyc just a few months ago and american maker in chicago.
here's where *you* can help us... know a cool company, a sponsor, someone high up in a company that likes MAKE or should? tell them about us, introduce them to us (just email me). maker faire is a great place for many companies and branding the "ROI" as they say in the biz is through the roof, if you want to build the future with science, engineering, arts and crafts maker faire is the place to be.

The midwest has some of the most ingenious makers in the country, but we very rarely get any sort of conferences worth going to. Considering that rental of a space would be a whole lot cheaper here than on either coast, I would think my area of the country would be a nice local for this sort of thing. No love for the great plains.

I would LOVE to go to a maker faire here in Colorado. Say, Denver, Boulder, Golden, or one of the mountain towns!
Lotsa goofy maker types in those places!

I live in Texas right now, but I'm looking to move to Chicago in the next 6 months. Someone up there needs to get a makerfaire set up out there. I can't head back to Austin every year for a weekend!

Doing it in Boston would rock!
Think of all the college makers that would poor out of the woodwork for an East Cost faire!
There are daily shuttles from Atlanta, DC, and NYC not to mention the Acla Amtrak train.
