Garduino: Gardening + Arduino

I just published my Instructable on getting my Arduino to take care of my plants. Specifically, Garduino waters the plants when their soil resistance level drops too low and turns on supplemental lighting to make total light daily equal 16 hours regardless of outside conditions. It’s not pretty, but it works!

Other than de-uglification, let me know what other improvements I should make and if you make your own, better version!

Very cool. I have been looking at doing something like this for my expanding back patio garden.

    Thanks!

As far as suggestions, how about some way to monitor the temp in your greenhouse and turn on a supplemental heater to keep the temp up during the early spring?

Nice, I’ve also been planing on doing something similar although I’m in a state of general analysis paralysis (and lack of money).

One improvement would be to make the moisture sensor use alternating current. You could simply switch the polarity between every measurement. This to prevent electrolysis since that would do weird chemistry with your soil and corrode the electrodes (affecting the calibration of the electrodes). Might not be a big problem though.

It would be interesting to hear how it works!

Is it possible to measure the EC and programm the Arduino to add some fertilizer with a pump into the nutrient tank, or to do that woth the pH?
