Make Pt1589
Microsoft Research Songsmith... Sing in to it, and it makes music...

Songsmith generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice. Just choose a musical style, sing into your PC’s microphone, and Songsmith will create backing music for you. Then share your songs with your friends and family, post your songs online, or create your own music videos.

You really need to watch the video, it's surreal...

I'd buy a glow in the dark towel! ;)

"I'm singing with my laptop!"......classic.

Ugh

I'm a mac user (that dislikes apple's "I'm a mac/pc" ads) but I love to see microsoft come out with cool stuff. I'm guessing in a shorter format this ad may come off as more as a sort of art-theater parody in good fun, but how hard is it to get an advertising agency that'll use only PC laptops?!? (notice the sticker-clad macbook here).

oof, perhaps songsmith could be fun in some sort of thumbnail/misuse way - especially if individual instrument tracks can be edited note-by-note.

The people in the video (at least the adults) are the actual researchers in the project. I recognize Sumit Basu.

MS Paint for Music

Yeah, nice Apple-esque laptop in the video... I agree with Collin, this could be cool if it were able to be used for evil purposes somehow, I sometimes use the similarly mindless and cheesy Band-in-a-Box software to generate instantly corny "full band" MIDI files that can be messed with in other software.

But I have to hand it to them, this video is the funniest thing I have seen in a while. Borderline disaster/brilliant.

I laughed out loud at the line:
"Microsoft, huh? So it's easy to use?"

That made my day!
