DIYtar: Arduino powered Keytar

Arduino Music Technology

I’m not sure if I agree that the Keytar is the world’s sexiest instrument, but this still a really cool project. It’s a keyboard/guitar controlled by an Arduino. The website has a little more information about the build and you can download the Arduino code.

Which is the worlds sexiest and awesomest instrument? yes, the keytar. But what if you want special features on it and are to cheap to buy one of ebay? That is what I am. Cheap and special, that is why I made my own.

What a worthless post. While the idea of having such a keytar would be awesome, the developer’s instructions are severely lacking.

“Schematics: I cant be bothered to do them right now, but they are not that advance.”

Yes, no schematics is a bit disappointing, but I still think it’s a worthy post. I never knew about the crazy-big (2x 500mm) SoftPot from Sparkfun and was glad to see it in action on the site. I plan on ordering a few soon.

Take a look at the code too. It has a lot of comments and may help you build one.

We post a lot of projects that don’t have schematics. Not everything is open source (unfortunately for us Makers) but I don’t think that makes the project or post “worthless”.

I just stuck guitar end hooks on an old Roland midi keyboard controller, shoved a strap on and was sorted. As soon as I attach I short bit of tubing at the top for a ‘neck’ and move the pitch bend onto it, it’ll be perfect.

Sounds cool. Just don’t forget to email me a link to pics so I can write about it on the blog. Better yet, a video of it would be great!
