This is a great open source MPG instrument for your car. It's based on the Arduino micro-controller along with a few other sensors. I really like all these open-source projects that are springing up all over the place. Amazing!
MPGuino is part of the OpenGauge instrumentation effort, which was created to make available efficiency instrumentation of all sorts. MPGuino specifically is a Miles Per Gallon gauge for fuel injected vehicles that is based on the arduino platform with some extra circuitry for monitoring the fuel injectors and the speed sensor in the vehicle.

That is a good project. It's often talked about along side the OBDuino project: http://code.google.com/p/opengauge/wiki/OBDuino
Which will provide a lot of info about your car using it's OBDII port (present on all 1996 and newer cars). This can include things like instantaneous MPG as well as reading the car's diagnostic codes.
Not to take away from the MPGuino which works in a different way and provides slightly different functionality.

Thanks for the link.
That looks like a really cool project too. I like the instant MPG. I had a car with it, and I think it really helps the overall MPG by keeping you aware of how bad you gas milage is when you hit the gas.
