Congratulations to the new washing machine guru! This is an excellent hack. Who knew that washing clothes could actually be fun!! Now you just need to hack it so the machine will put the clothes in the dryer for you. :)

I already have a crazy hi-tech device that tells me when the clothes are done... a clock. Not to mention the washing machine buzzes when complete. More overkill to numb us to the obvious, and self awareness of our everyday sorroundings.

OMFG! If i could buy a wireless version of this It would be amazing. This hack has huge potential!
How can I Buy one, I mean I could try to make it but I have no clue......... I've almost lost both pinky fingers trying to do technical things myself.

My name is Brian Snyder, and I work at Whirlpool Corporation where we make Maytag appliances. I’m excited to see that you’re still getting use out of what looks like a 25 year-old Model A210.
We’re always looking for new ways to connect our appliances with the Internet. While we haven’t used Twitter yet, in 2006 we partnered with the Connected Home Research Council to pilot a feature called “Laundry Time” that sent text messages about the laundry's progress to a computer, TV and/or cell phone. There’s more information about what we’re doing with connected appliances at: http://www.caba.org/connectedhome - and keep an eye out for us at CES as well.

It's good to see more people looking to add functionality to home appliances. When I first used Minerva to email my video, and Twitter the currently playing CD track (with data from FreeDB), people thought it strange. Now it's something the 'big boys' are looking into, and surely that only be a good thing.

I don't know much about programming but I'd love to get a hack for one of the computerized washers - like the LG Tromm. There's got to be a way to tell it to do a short wash with hot water and a warm rinse for example. The presets aren't ideal.
I love the hacks people apply to Roomba's - maybe someone wants to figure out the washers and dryers next?
