Starting at $320, these Blown Ups light bulbs are a little out of my price range, but very interesting. Are there any glass blowers out there who've made their own light bulbs? Via Cool Hunting.

With halogens (or LEDs) you wouldn't have to create a partial vacuum to make the bulbs, which is a win.
That being said, some creative collision between the techniques use to home-brew your own vacuum tubes and alightbulb with hand-wound tungsten filaments.
Because we /can/, man.

Anybody know if you can start with a commercial lightbulb and re-shape it?

you don't need a vacuum, you just need a glove-box (not even a very well sealed one... think tupperware, dish washing gloves and epoxy)and a source of any noble gas (think helium or argon)
