I whacked together a less pretty version for my G1 the day after I got it. The problem is, there is almost nothing useful that you can do with a G1 that's closed sitting on your desk sideways.

You should post a picture to the Make Flickr pool! http://www.flickr.com/groups/make/pool/
If you want to keep your G1 awake while it's charging, go into Settings, Applications, Development, and choose Stay Awake. If you're running an app that lets you set its orientation in its settings, you can rotate it so it looks good on its side.

Jonathan, you can watch YouTube videos with it closed. Or just listening to music. Or if it's charging on your nightstand and you have an app like the Night clock.
