Automatic album art with a little help from Flick-ipedia

automaticalbums.jpg

Noise Addicts posted this effective recipe for near-automatic generation of album artwork (though it does allow for some creative typesetting) -

1. Go to Wikipedia and hit “random” and the first article you get is the name of your band.

2. Go to “Random Quotations”. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page will be the title of your new album.

3. Go to Flickr and click on “Explore the Last Seven Days”. The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Give it a go - the results can be eerily convincing. Plus - it's a quick and easy fix when you get the creative urge at the office/library/etc. Man … I could swear my cousin had that Stutz Blackhawk album back in the day.

My new band name is Ben Hueso. Our next major release will be "Everyone liked you except yourself".

I think Ben Hueso might have a breakout hit on their hands.

psst - I'm secretly a member of Stutz Blackhawk, they only let me play the tambourine tho :(

"Defensive War" has just announced the release of their comeback album "As If There Were" on vinyl and 8-track. We're getting the band back together!

My name is now Lisa Simon and I have an album called "Be Serious When People Laugh". My album art (http://www.flickr.com/photos/73694036@N00/3382019953/) says that I'm a singer-songwriter who really means it when she says "serious" and that you should probably pronounce my surname "Simone"!

This is an internet meme, not a "make" project. Are we going to see tutorials on how to make lolcat pictures next? Lame.

Oh posh! - have some fun...

... and watch for Ren Xun's latest hit album "because nothing is well-done".

Prebuilt Application

My friends and found out about this a while ago. To make things easier i wrote a web app built on flex(flash based). It does everything for you. It even grabs the image, allows you to crop it position the text etc. All within your browser. Then you click download and you have your custom album art.

I'd love to put it up but i can't take the server hit. If anyone can host it please let me know and then everyone wins. If anyone wants to look at it let me know. I can show a few people i just can't let it kill my server or use up all of my bandwidth.

Remarkable!

My band "A Burn or a Shiver" has just released "Something we had to know", apparently! The album art is weird but totally convincing!

This is one of the most fun articles I've seen lately, I really like it!

This idea gives eerily good results.
