Flickr member My Blue Van turned a couple of power pole insulator caps into stylish LED desk lights. Looks like a great way to display these highly collectible items — perhaps routing multiple to a central power supply and switch. Check out more pics in the relevant Flickr set.

Fantastic! I have a bunch of these insulator caps, the kids and I can use them for “indoor camping!” Coolio! Thanks!

Here’s another idea for them; make a quarter scale powerline clothesline. I made one at my other house. I sunk two 8′ round posts in the ground, put a 2X4 near the tops with metal diagonal braces, and four holes bored into the tops of the 2X4s for large dowels for the insulators to fit onto. A pair of these about 15 or 20 feet apart and black nylon rope running between them looked just like a power line. Throw your sheets, spring cleaning curtains or washed rugs onto them if you are not into crisp/crunchy sun dried bath towels & clothes.
