It is worth noting that the Scratch development team at MIT has stopped using a free and open source license for Scratch, which is a shame since it is such a valuable tool. It is, however, typical of academia's approach to developing software for young people -- proprietary interests come first.
It would be helpful if people who support software freedom and the freedom to tinker would point this out when talking about Scratch.

I tried to download these, and I do have Scratch already, but am only receiving a "bad header" message. I cannot open these files. Any ideas?

I just tried to download Scratch again and it is still free. Also, if you are getting the "bad header" message you need to reinstall it. There is an updated version. I don't know why but it worked for me.
