Alex has been using Scratch to teach problem solving and programming with kids.
Here is the balancing cat.sb file. Here is Alex's solution.sb.
You will need a copy of the free program Scratch. Try it out, post your results on the Scratch site, and let us know what you think.

It is worth noting that the Scratch development team at MIT has stopped using a free and open source license for Scratch, which is a shame since it is such a valuable tool. It is, however, typical of academia's approach to developing software for young people -- proprietary interests come first.
It would be helpful if people who support software freedom and the freedom to tinker would point this out when talking about Scratch.

I tried to download these, and I do have Scratch already, but am only receiving a "bad header" message. I cannot open these files. Any ideas?

I just tried to download Scratch again and it is still free. Also, if you are getting the "bad header" message you need to reinstall it. There is an updated version. I don't know why but it worked for me.
