The summer class lineup at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn has got me really jealous I don't live in NYC anymore. Some instant drool moments:

  • Night Welding: Intro to the Metal Shop
  • Build It: DIY Sequencer
  • Build It: Tone Generator
  • How to Make Crappy Stuff Awesome (furniture)
  • Plastics Fabrication & Casting

Here in NZ the government is cutting funding for community education classes. These night classes are run at local schools in the evenings and covered a wide range of topics. They have been running for decades I believe. I have been attending a metalwork class myself for years (to get access to tools I don't have at home). It's a great shame the classes will be unable to run from next year and it will affect a huge number of people. In a country with a population of 4 million around 200000 people are said to be affected. These classes taught me to weld, panel beat, use machine tools. Not to mention making some good friends over the years.

It is also a great example of how politicians will say whatever they think will keep themselves popular then do the opposite when they are in power.

I would say if you have such classes in your country make as much use of them as you can since you never know when such things will not be available anymore.

I wish I lived in NYC too!
