This is an interesting musical interface called the PianoDuino. It uses the SoundCipher library for Processing and an Arduino to create interactive sound. Check out the web site for a little more information, and all the code needed to build your own.
PianoDuino is a simple experiment that integrates Arduino, Processing and a library to manipulate sounds, the SoundCipher. The idea was to try the Multiplexer / demultiplex 4051.

I dislike it when commenters make snotty comments about the projects featured being "lame" or what have you... but I am a bit mystified why this project merited a posting. Perhaps I'm missing something?
The computer in the background is playing the piano sounds right? So this is really just an exercise in a microprocessor sending midi commands to a computer when a button is pushed. I can imagine doing something interesting being built upon this, but it doesn't seem interesting in itself.

Yes, the computer in the background is playing the music.....and yes, using a micro-controller as a midi interface is totally worth posting. It may not be interesting to you, but I hope it's interesting to some of our other readers.

My suggestion is that if you feel a MIDI interface is interesting in itself, then perhaps the posting should link to info on how to do it.
Since it isn't really a ground breaking technique and it self-acknowledges that it is an exercise (as opposed to an interesting application of an existing technique), then I'm betting most folks who find this interesting would want to know how it is done.
What got me going on MIDI was this Nuts & Volts column that shows how to hook up a microcontroller to a midi cable and send commands.
My other note for the suggestion box is that it would be great to see more postings on contemporary artists (such as Tim Hawkinson) and what they're up to lately.

Yes, I know there wasn't a how-to unfortunately, but I do like seeing a persons progress with or without a how-to. I just like checking out projects!
