Via Mister Jalopy and Dinosaurs and Robots (by way of Lenore Edman’s Twitter feed) comes this amazing bike project to create a cargo bike that actually comes apart so you can take the front assembly and basket into the store. Ingenious. And the build is well documented.

    Guess I don’t see the necessity to make such an involved control assembly. An angled tube reciever shaft and extended fork tube would do the job.

    @anonymous- not really. Building VW trikes one quickly becomes aware of ‘trail’ and its effect on handling. Laying the head tube down as you suggest makes for very heavy steering, especially with that load up there…

    Search “Bicycle and motorcycle geometry” on wikipedia for a better explanation.

    And as a ‘monday morning quarterback’ MAKEr…I would just put full swivel wheels on the back of the cart too..But cool idea as it is!

      Glad to see something so practical on make. This non trivial, non decorative modification makes shopping better for the environment. More projects like these! We can do with less “steampunk vegetable juicer” and the like,
