It’s often said that the best camera is the one on you. These readymade snap-on lenses for the iPhone are a fun addition to a spur of the moment snapshot.

Where is the Make in that?
When will you change the logo to Oreilly Gadget Shop?
    Lookee: it’s the Apple logo!

MAKE is all about taking something that is popular and mass produced and making it better through the application of technology or art, either homemade or also mass produced (yet clever), in a way that makes you think “cool”, “why didn’t I think of that”, or “I gotta build/get me one of those”.

The reason why the iPhone and other Apple devices may appear more frequently than other similar devices in projects or in use with neat products is because they are popular and, thus, plentiful in the real world. It is not because the MAKE staff has an abnormal love of Apple (I’m sure a few do, but I am also sure there are also a few who loathe it as well). Rather, it is because the world, in general, uses Apple stuff, so people make neat projects with Apple stuff (a lot of projects due to the number of people using said stuff), and MAKE reports it.

We’ve been covering photography for years now. We’ve covered specialty lenses, cameras that can be hacked, in-camera F/X, making your own camera accessories, etc. These are cheap lenses that allow you to do different kinds of funky photo effects with your phone. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. We try to not post too many of these gadget-related items, but we do run them from time to time.

It’s cool to know there are folks like Gilberti and Gareth around to squash the occasional obstinate griefer with a healthy dose of common sense.

Even though the original comment is a boorish attempt to label this post a ‘product placement’ I feel obligated to humor it for the sake of the readership. First, this is obviously not ‘product placement’. If it were, I would have linked directly to a product page where people could purchase something, like everyone else does.

For example: Make already has a great gadget shop. It’s called The Maker Shed. We link to it all the time. It can be found at http://makershed.com

Second, to answer to the question of where the Make is: usually photographs and videos are made with cameras. There are other methods, but that’s another article.

Disclaimer: I do own Apple products. I also own Dell products, products that run Microsoft Windows, Google Android, GNU/Linux, and a large assortment of other things too numerous to mention. If I like something and find it interesting enough to write about, I will.

I make cool stuff and write about other people making cool stuff on makezine.com. If you have something you think I should see, send me a tip.
