Riding with the tall bike crew of Yogya, Indonesia

Photographer Tod Seelie has great shots and tales of recent travels to Indonesia on his blog. The set that really caught my eye is of the tall bike crew in Yogya. They remind me of an Indonesian Cyclecide, and they certainly have no shortage of modded rides.

Seelie also posted a video of riding tall bikes in Jakarta. Love the perspective as vehicles cruise by. Being tall is clearly a safety plus for visibility.

Road rules...

Very cool video! Disappointed, though, that the video showed the bicyclists plowing straight through a red light.

Heh - you've obviously never been to Indonesia... Road rules are generally treated as broad guidelines... generally not enforced unless there is a police post at the traffic lights or a traffic cop standing in the middle of the road. It's like of a beautiful chaos where the individual motorist doesn't want to get killed (or presumably kill others), just wants to get from A to B, without having to stop at a red light that no-one is crossing at.

I'll corroborate askvictor's story on that one, it's a bit of a free-for-all. Always wear your helmet!
