Wired has a writeup on Chad Conway's CommutaCar. It came out really nice, and helped point him in a good direction for his studies. Keep in mind that he was busy with his studies and after school sports, so did the bulk of the rebuild during his half hour lunch breaks over about a month or two in high school.
Best of all, Conway says his car proves that EVs have been possible and practical for more than three decades. "By driving a car that is 30 years old and can still satisfy the majority of my transportation needs, I always seem to ask myself why a similar car is not being produced today," Conway said. "I have had over a hundred people ask where they can get one for themselves because they think it is perfect."

the Norwegian electrical car "Buddy" is wery similar to this, just without those awfull bumpers :P

Wow I saw a car just like that new DFW, Texas and I've been wondering for a few months just what the hell it was I saw. Looks like it must have been one of the older model "Classic Buddys" the poster above me linked to. Mystery solved! Thanks MAKE!

It doesn't matter what the age of the car, or what it looks like. Electric Vehicle Grins are electric vehicle grins!
And I'm a big fan of this particular car. It's great to see younger drivers getting behind the wheel of electrics.
I drive an electric '84 VW golf. It's our main car and gets chosen above our gas guzzling (85 mpg) smart car any day!
Driving a 30 year old car is not always great fun when it's in bad shape, but with such a great restoration I'm sure Chad has zero hasstle driving it!

No I'm a fan of electric vehicles. I think they're the future, but when I first saw a CompuCar on 3-2-1 Contact back when I was 6 or 7, I thought, "Why would anyone buy an electric car? They look dumb." 25 years later, I now wonder if the horrible right-angle styling was an intentional attempt to discourage adoption.
I love how he says that his 1970s wedge is vastly superior and doesn't "damage the reputation of electric vehicles", but can only go 40 mph and 45 miles. So at best, one hour of drive time at top speed.
Bring me a Tesla or the Chevy Volt.
