So...why does this hit the blog now?
The shield has been around.
Is it just a random ad?

I've got an Arduino with an ethernet shield wired up to my modified Pizzazz pizza maker so it tweets on Twitter (and sends me a text message) when my pizza is done cooking. You can find it on Twitter at @ThePizzazz. It's not really necessary, but a fun learning project...and it's sometimes useful if I have music playing, am in another room further away, or am outside. :-)
