10 things to do with a new Arduino

Matt over at Liquidware posted an evolution of simple introductory sketches for those fresh to the world of Arduino. A good starting point for those who find themselves with a new board, the examples require no additional hardware and demonstrate/combine digital output, serial communication, and their relevant functions.

Pretty neat. I just got a Arduino this Christmas.

There should be like a 365 Arduino Projects with a new project every day. Start kinda small and get bigger.

Starting out is so exciting (wish i could do that again). Trying to come up with a good reason to build something more complicated is hard. Too difficult and you get stuck, too easy and you’ll get bored. Hah, i know you’re going “Duh”, but honestly, it’s hard not to bite off more than you can chew.

    My progress went like:
    1) Blink led (typtical helloworld)
    2) make an 8 bit binary LED timer with pause button.
    3) Try to build wireless robot tank … and got stuck
    4) Experiment with various i2c chips like RTC, IO expander, SRAM, EEPROM (fun but hard to find i2c through-hole parts) These can easily expand your arduino capabilities.
    5) Build wireless (and portable) motion detector
    6) Re-visit robot project.. with success!

Now i’m working on a handheld communicator type thing. Each project is getting progressively more expensive to build too, hah. But even 30 minutes everyday after work adds up.. it’s all very exciting!

ha – the way you started out there had me expecting an unhappy ending – congrats!

    Thanks Collin!

I am one of those “just bought and wondering” people…I have been doing lots of book learning, but now for some hands on.

2 duemillanove boards, 3 x-bees, 2 x-bee breakout boards, and more- once I get rolling I wont have to stop for a while.

HacknMod has a superb list and showcase for your inspiration:
