DIY Computer Chair

Ron Bean of Milwaukee Makerspace built this gloriously impractical computer chair:

The structure is a little haphazard because I was making it up as I went along. I had planned to make all the angles adjustable, but when I found an angle that seemed right, it turned out to be exactly 30 degrees, so I drilled some holes and bolted it in place. Next time I’ll start with that, and the structure will look more like I planned it that way…

The monitor and bookstand can be raised on drawer slides to get them out of the way. The weight is balanced by two paint cans full of pea gravel. I think the monitor should be slightly lower, and maybe a little farther away, so when I take it apart to take it home, I’ll drill a few more adjustment holes (everything bolts together, and no single piece is more than 6 ft long, so it will fit in my car).

I LOVE this.  My wife, who is an interior designer, is likely to hate it, but we’ll see.  Perhaps she can help me find a way to make it “look good” as well as work…I’m the function guy, she’s in charge of form.

Where’s the microwave and fridge stocked with Hot Pockets? I suppose this could be set up next to a 1st floor window for pizza delivery?

    Nice!
I might well consider making something like this myself.

Looks like the misses could help you hide this in an armiore or a closet. Though as a hammock rig of some kind she may allow it to be left out in the open instead of hidding it. Hacking worn out outdoor funiture may be another kernal of an idea. A poarch or workshop would be best for this interesting idea to be placed and used.

Aren’t there any schematics how to build such a chair ?

As a prototype, this has a few interesting ideas that are worth exploring.  I’d definitely want to clean it up and add a few things though if I built it.  I’m also not sure about the keyboard situation of just having it on my lap, so would probably want to figure out another solution.  I like the drawer rails to raise and lower the monitor though.

I envision putting this on a wall where you could cover all the other areas with cabinets or bookcases to make it integrated and even hide the monitor completely up top when not in use.

I like it. Would want to move the seat braces to make getting in and out of it easier.
