Gizmodo on Pop Sci’s beer machine @ Maker Faire…

Giz’s semi-goddess Sarah Meyers went to Maker Faire to admire all kinds of wonderful machines, and videotaped this straightforward demo of the workings of The Device, the first all-in-on beer machine. It’s our favorite by far, not because of its design or ingenuity, but because of what it makes: lots of different types of beer. And, unlike other boutique ales, you won’t have to recover a stolen laptop to enjoy a lifetime supply of its frothy goodness. The bad: it’s not as elegant as a fridge with a built-in draft beer system. The good: it’s fresh beer, you can teach science to your kids while getting drunk and it doesn’t require a stupid bottle opener.

Zymurgy used to periodically do an issue on homebrew tech that would warm the heart of any homebrewing maker.

The idea I really liked was modifying a soda keg to be used as a primary fermenter (cutting the liquid tube an inch or so short and taking out the poppet on the gas side) and using kegs for your fermentation steps. The best part was when it came time to rack your beer you only needed to clean a foot long piece of hose and a couple disconnects and you never had to start a siphon. Just push the beer around with CO2.

Hackaday coverd this a couple days ago. There are some good links to other all-in-one beer brewing devices.
