The Maker Faire App

We are thrilled to announce the release of the World Maker Faire event app, put together by Xomo Digital and some of O’Reilly’s finest. The app is sponsored by HP’s Hacking Autism Initiative.

As Maker Faires get bigger, with more to see and do, and more makers to connect with, a good organizing tool is necessary so that you don’t miss any of the action. We’re jazzed by the potential of this one.

Some highlights include the ability to drill your way through the schedule (speakers, performances, events), the venues, and the makers, looking at, for instance, all of the talks a given maker might be presenting over the weekend, or all of the presentations happening in a specific venue. Within a maker’s profile, you can also see related talks and related makers. And you can send social media alerts about events and makers. And even access their website or email them (if address is public) directly from the app!

Another handy feature is the ability to tag events and set alarms to be alerted before events. And, as you’d expect from an event app, there’s an interactive Google map and the ability to filter map features (venues, food, ATMs, etc).

Big shout-outs to Jake Spurlock, Pascal Honscher, Sarah Kim, and Peter Wiggin for getting this program together on the O’Reilly side.

You can download the iPhone version from the App Store and in the Android Market here.

And, as you use the app, we’d love to hear what you think — what features do really like, what improvements would you wish for, etc. Drop your thoughts in the comments.

Great little app!  Will this be available for future Mini Maker Faires to modify?!

    1. Jake Spurlock says:

Probably not, this is pretty custom. However, we will have this for future Maker Faires!
