The 1969 Cadillac Hot Tub Seeks a New Land Speed Record!

If you’re tired of limousines with a hot tub in the back, and would instead like to see one that you can literally drive while bathing, Duncan Forester and Phil Weicker have your answer. They hope to set the world land speed for a hot tub at the SCTA (Southern California Timing Association) course at the salt flats in Utah with their custom “hot tub” build. Although the build is done, they apparently need $10,000 via this Kickstarter campaign to get the car there from California and race it.

They’re hoping this car will be in a class of its own, so provided that nothing breaks, and they are actually allowed to race, their chances of setting the record may be pretty good. No word on how much water will be used on race day, but I’d assume that it will be a little less full than seen in the video. Stopping from a moderate speed in the video looks like the bath tub “tidal wave” that many kids (including my former self) enjoy making to the displeasure of their parents.

The build is quite impressive, and can be seen on the aforementioned Kickstarter. The “pool” pump and filter components are in the trunk, and the hot tub interior of this “car” is constructed using a custom mould. Naturally, the suspension had to be customized to support the massive weight of water. I definitely wish them the best of luck; hopefully we’ll hear about the new record soon!
