A Stirling engine in a teacup

This attractive cup-perched craft project is actually a working papercraft model of a Stirling engine being sold by a Germany science novelty catalog. Sitting on your tea or coffee cup, the heat (or cold) from within will power the engine for up to an hour. The kit costs EUR21.90 (around US$30).

HOW TO - Make a Moleskine-like notebook

Here's another decent how to on rolling your own custom notebooks. By the time you're finished, you certainly won't save any money having made it yourself (if your time counts for anything), but bookbinding can be its own reward. And creating your own notebooks means you have total control over cover and internal designs, materials used, notebook sizes, etc.

NYC DIY Meet-Up, Round Two (Paper Wallet Edition)

John has a preview of what's going on tonight, he writes -
It's time again for all New York City-area makers, builders, hackers and crafters to gather at the MAKE/Etsy headquarters in Brooklyn for another DIY show-and-tell night. Last month's music-themed show-and-tell was fantastic (check out some video and photos from last month here), and tonight's subject--all things paper--is bound to be equally DIY-tastic. Paper wallets (check out what I'm carrying now above), paper airplane folding contests, portraits done via robot, and much more awaits tonight...

Make a flat pack toy

anKo writes -
A while ago, Ben Pieratt of FWIS Design wrote a great tutorial on making "flat pack" toys. That's paper craft to the rest of us. If you're a designer, it's nice to see one of your creations occupy three dimensions. Not artistically gifted? That's okay. Build one to scare desk weasels away from your office.Getting started can be a bit overwhelming so I created some blank templates to get you started...

555 timer origami

The 555 timer, part of just about every beginner electronics project is now forever paper-ized as a giant origami sculpture. The PDF is included so you can make your own!
The 555 timer IC was first introduced around 1971 by the Signetics Corporation as the SE555/NE555 and was called "The IC Time Machine" and was also the very first and only commercial timer ic available. It provided circuit designers and hobby tinkerers with a relatively cheap, stable, and user-friendly integrated circuit for both monostable and astable applications.Like an acarid, this chip is widely present in our everyday life but rather invisible at the same time. This situation is a bit like contemporary origami design. Its influence has been very important in math, science, technology and architecture in last two decades but origami is still considered by most people as a game for children. It seems to me logical to represent a Timer 555 in origami for these reasons.

Logic goats
These paper logic goats look like a lot of fun and a great way to learn about logic gates, they're not free, but only a couple bucks...
The central processing unit lies at the heart of every computer, a vast collection of microscopically small switches and logic-gates. Now, through the power of paper we bring you those same logic gates in goat form. Presented here are the and-goat the or-goat and the not-goat The and-goat will nod his head only in you press the right button AND the left button. The or-goat nods his head if you press the left button OR the right button OR both buttons. The not-goat nods his head if you are NOT pressing the button.

ShopDropping

Consumerist points to Kelly Loudenberg's video about the "shopdropping" a recent workshop with our friends from Eyebeam -
Shopdropping is a tactic used by artists and activists to clandestinely place altered or recreated objects into retail stores. Handmade labels were printed out for students to color, cut, and paste. The project featured real people who make the products, their name, and sometimes even a story. The intent is to reconnect the labor with the product.
