Letters without envelopes, cutting or glue

Here's a fun site that pops out a PDF for letter writing without envelopes, cutting or glue - "All you need to send one is a printer, an A4 or Letter-sized sheet of paper and a stamp. The letter is the envelope! It holds itself closed, secured by the stamp - so it doesn't even need any glue. You use the entire sheet of paper, so there's nothing to cut either!" [via] Link.
Also, see our papercraft collection here.

Legal pad + grid paper = Doane paper

Doane was in a product design meeting and noticed half the people were using legal pads and the other half grid paper, so combined the two - you can download this free paper and print it out here - [via] Link.

Make paper CD cases
Andrew writes - "Looks like this site has been around a few years, but I just found it while searching for an easy way to print some cd covers. There's a form you fill out with all your cd info, and you can choose to print either an origami-style paper cd case, or a standard jewel case cover. It creates a PDF, so if you've got an appropriate editing program, you can insert some cover art. A couple people have written scripts to convert iTunes lists and plain-text files to their cover PDF." Link.

V-Twin Engine Paper Model
A little pricey, but still very cool "This is a spectacular magical art for you to put together and is made with paper entirely (except two little wood sticks). This "V-Twin Engine" has semi-realistic exterior and interior detail. The size is about 50% of real engine. It is powered by hand. All patterns of parts are printed on the high quality neutral pH and acid-free heavy paper, which can last for many years and will not turn brittle and yellow or fades with age. All parts are to be cut out and folded. No paint applied. It looks pure and elegant. Various shadows created by different light sources make the appearance more 3D" Link.

Letterpress Printing
Justin writes,"I took a letterpress class last Saturday at San Francisco's Center for the Book, a maker-rific and tremendous Bay Area resource. I learned how to use a Vandercook 4 printing press and by the end of the day long workshop, the class had designed and printed 40 copies of a book!" Link.

The Origami PC
Eric writes "Tomohiro Tachi designs complex technical origami works- check out this design for a complete laptop PC, folded from one sheet of paper! He has a partially completed example shown on his site, as well as the full crease pattern to fold it. the attention to detail is mind-boggling; even down to the individual slots and shapes for the jacks on the sides of the laptop. It's the best "geek" origami I have ever seen to date." Link.

Make-your-own Special Last-minute Wrapping Paper
Make your own gift wrap - Jack writes "This year as I was putting together Christmas gifts, I realized that I'd forgotten to pick up a roll of wrapping paper. At this point, I recalled the Make-a-Flake site I came across a while ago, and it hit me that I could prevent another trip to the store and at the same time, make custom wrapping paper for each of my giftees. Win-win!" Link.

Canon 3D Papercraft...
Arno writes "Just like the Yamaha papercraft site you wrote about earlier, this site has some nice 3D papercraft in different categories such as: animals, science, buildings of the world, seasons, holidays, games, kids, etc." [via] Link. The Science section is my favorite. As paper becomes smarter, with micro-ink technology, these papercrafts will become 3D models that can also dispense code and information.

HOW TO - Make junk mail blinds
Matt writes "Strangely aesthetically pleasing window blinds made out of junk mail. By affixing strips of junk mail to an existing set of venetian blinds, one can drastically reduce the amount of light allowed through without losing the ability to raise and lower the blinds. In my case, about three months' worth of junk mail, but your mileage will vary. Your trusty roll of duct tape (color to suit). Two rolls of scotch tape. A ruler. A spool of uninsulated wire. A pair of needle-nosed pliers. A thumbtack. Space to work." Link.

Gocco Yeti Ornaments
Nothing says Christmas like a Yeti ornament. Craftlog posted up her tips on using Print Gocco to create her abominable creature. Make one yourself or if you are up for a swap, she'll make you one for something else in return. Also big news here, you might want to stock up on the cool printing machines as Gocco's are being discontinued from the manufacturer. Link.

Make a dodecahedral - 12 sided calendar
Fun calendar project "A dodecahedron is literally a polyhedron with 12 faces, but usually a regular dodecahedron is meant: a Platonic solid composed of twelve pentagonal faces, with three meeting at each vertex. It has twenty vertices and thirty edges. Its dual polyhedron is the icosahedron. Download a dodecahedral calendar after your own specifiation. Choose PDF format if you can't print PostScript files. Choose PostScript format if you want to modify the calendar. The PostScript file explains how to mark holidays and birthdays." Thanks Star! Link.

The Paper Microscope
This site has a bit of information about a paper microscope kit, they're only sold in Germany, but it looks easy enough to recreate these and make your own..."Here's a microscope, made from nothing but paper, two lenses, a plastic mirror and a drinking straw. Although this is not the kind of material you would expect to be used in an optical instrument, the facts are quite amazing: 50 x magnification, gear drive for focus setting, high quality plastic lenses, mirror to collect light for transmission view." Thanks Joevennix! Link.

Functional Paper V8 Engine
Make friend, the Lotharian, says,"This V8 Engine made entirely out of paper with the exception of a few parts (motor, wires, etc.), is fully functional. It features many moving parts which include: a compound crankshaft, a rapid cooling fan, 8 rods, 8 pistons and a complex compound gearbox. The engine is powered by 2 times 1.5V D Batteries and weighs 2.98kg. From start to finish this model took one year to design and construct. There is even a D.I.Y. kit in the works that will be released shortly." Thanks Lotharian! [via] Link.

Papercraft puzzles...
Homespun Magixx has a ton of paper models you print out, cut and build. Most of them are fun figures, robots and novelties - but there are a couple really interesting 3D puzzles too. The HexTix puzzle looks like a game I recently played in virtual world, Second Life. [via] Link.
