Creating a fiberglass snowmobile trailer (in the shape of a cat and mouse!)

F17Pe6Ofakwpk7C.Medium

Upnorthrick writes -

Here is a snowmobile cutter I built over the last winter. It is a cat chasing a mouse chasing a chunk of cheese. The cheese is the hitch and the cat is the actual trailer. It is sized to carry a banana box and a bit more. The cat's tail is a handle to open the storage area and is held closed with magnetic latches.

As I haven't made anything with foam and fiberglass in some time I wanted a project with many compound curves.

People ask if it will carry passengers. I briefly considered a rumble seat but despite our well maintained roads it seems passengers deserve a suspension. Someone without a snowmobile might consider a smaller dog or person pulled version or toboggan.

Aerocivic - green modded Honda Civic

Boatrebuild15
Darin writes -

Photos & details of a 15 year old Honda Civic, radically aerodynamically modified for increased fuel economy. The owner reports coast-down testing indicates the co-efficient of drag has dropped from .34 to .17 - better than GM's ill-fated, and super-slippery EV1 electric car. With fuel economy instrumentation, the owner claims "Approximate mileage on a flat road at 85F ... 85mpg at 70mph".

Dekochari art bikes

I seem to have missed this in Japan, the video is excellent! Pink Tentacle writes -

For decades in Japan, dekochari (deko means “decoration” and chari means “bicycle”) have been the ride of choice for hardcore dekotora fans that are too young to drive. Modeled after Japan’s celebrated art trucks, dekochari typically feature large front bumpers, ornate luggage racks, rear-mounted boxes that resemble truck trailers, colorful paint jobs, lots of chrome, and sophisticated electric light displays. This video pieces together random night scenes from Dekochari Yarou, a documentary that profiles a few dekochari enthusiasts and their custom rides. The soundtrack is “Ichiban-boshi Blues” (sung by Bunta Sugawara and Kinya Aikawa), the theme song from the Torakku Yarou movie series that sparked Japan’s dekotora craze in the ’70s.

This page details the initial mods and configuration of a low power Dirt-E Bike (electric powered). The central idea was to resurrect a trashed Kawasaki KE-175 that I salvaged from a scrap yard into a more modern ride.

This film explains how to sew a digital display for use as a car accessory. It was created by our very own Steve Spencer as part of a competition that Scion held called "Craft My Ride." Steve has been working on this during nights and weekends and its pretty fun stuff. He used http://www.sensables.com authoring tools (beta version) to design the animation.

Play Tetris with a car

Fresh Creations sent in the latest of what we've called "game instantiations" -

Park To Play is an installation which can turn any car into a joystick for playing games like Tetris, Pong, Space Invaders or Pinball. The car dashboard and the doors become the buttons on the joystick. Thijs Eerens tells us about the interactive installation and we get a demo of this outrageous joystick.

Homemade in-car camcorder mount

Chris writes -

Here are some pictures and plans of an homemade in-car camcorder mount. It fits very stiffness on the passenger's seat headrest allowing hands-free filming from the driver's viewpoint. To make your own that fits your car, you'll need approx. 2 feet of 3/4" aluminum or steel square tube, 2 u-bolts, 4 wing nuts for tool-free installation and an universal mounting screw (or a web cam swivel stand for lighter cameras). The total cost in material is below $15.00 USD. Drive responsibly !

What would you do with a used Boeing 747?

Telstar 707
Todd writes -

The following information may be of interest to Artists, Architects, Aviation Buffs, Crafty Types, Flight Sim Geeks, Readers of Make magazine, Survivalists, and/or Very Wealthy People with a Taste for Ostentation: Have you ever dreamed of purchasing your very own Boeing 747? Mojave_7472 If so, now is the time to talk with your finance people and get all your ducks in a row. During the next two to five years, the price of used Boeing 747s may fall to historic lows as the global supply of dead 747s climbs to unprecedented highs. The in-service arrival of next-generation widebody aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747-8 means that several hundred of today's oldest 747s -- mostly 747-200 models built during the 1970s that are currently used as air freighters -- will soon be headed out to pasture.
Telstar Logistics: Psssst! Who Wants to Buy a Used Boeing 747, CHEAP? - [via] Link.

Ok Makers, we can't buy a jet (yet) but post up in the comments on what *you* would do with a used Boeing 747 and I'll pick a good one at the end of the day (11:59 PM PDT). The winner will get a MAKE Pocket Ref.

What's a Pocket Ref? All the reference information anyone needs on virtually any subject is right at the fingertips in this handy pocket-sized guide.
