King of the Nerds is Now Casting for Season 2

The popular competition-based reality show from TBS, "King of the Nerds", is currently casting for Season 2. The reality show embraces and celebrates all things "nerd", so the mere fact that you're reading this probably means you'd qualify. You'll have to submit a 5-10 minute video of yourself to apply, and must be at least 18 years old. The winner of the show will receive $100,000!

Humanoid robot competition is one part of RoboGames that seems to be dominated by Japanese roboticists. Lem Fugitt, who runs Robots Dreams, has been involved with the humanoid robot scene in Japan for nine years, and tends to bring a few "professional" Robo-One players with him on his annual trip to RoboGames. We spoke with him about how he got involved in the Robo-One scene and how 3D Printing has started to benefit the builders.

Despite the large number of categories of robots here at RoboGames, the resounding sounds of metal on metal and cheers from the crowd keep drawing us back to the combat arena. We were immediately surprised by the variety of locations and backgrounds these teams come from, whether it's a High School from across the country, a local engineer working in his garage, or a robotics team from Brazil.

MAKE at RoboGames

Imagine the carnage that ensues when you pit two 200+ lb. robots against each other, often with weapons that spin at around 3500 rpm. The noise level and adrenaline both run high as they bang away at each other. Intern Coordinator Sam Freeman and I are at RoboGames to witness not only the combat, but all sorts of other robotics events as well. We only got here a little while ago, but have already been fascinated by the great stuff we've seen.

A Conversation With 3D Artist Joshua Harker

Joshua Harker has been a maker and artist his whole life. He worked professionally as a product and toy designer for a few years before turning to 3D art. Within the last year and a half, he's created the first and fourth most funded sculpture projects on Kickstarter, and sold thousands of beautiful works of art, all created with 3D Printing. I spoke to him about his process and his views on the current state of the 3D Printing industry.

Catching Up With Sketchfab Co-founder Alban Denoyel

Sketchfab, a website for uploading and sharing 3D models for free, is a great way to easily add an interactive element to your web content. Their model viewer can be embedded in almost any webpage, and they're adding new features on a fairly regular basis. I caught up with co-founder Alban Denoyel to check in on their progress.
