Lorena and David of San Francisco decked out their baby Lino’s nursery ceiling with embroidery hoops filled with all different fabrics, hanging from the ceiling. They sprinkled in some extra special hoops with glow-in-the-dark “friendly ghost” night protectors that David silk-screened himself. I love this idea, because a baby is often laying on his back looking up at the ceiling — give him something to look at!

  1. Brilliant!
How did you all get the fabric to stay taut in the hoop?
How are they suspended from the ceiling?
I’d like to replicate this idea, but instead of the ceiling, I’d like to cover one wall.

    Hey Anna,
I’m not the crafter, but it looks like they stretched wires across the room to hang the hoops from. I think getting the fabric to stay taut is pretty easy, once you’ve used an embroidery hoop once or twice. You should visit Lorena’s Flickr set to see more of the process pics. The link is in the post above. : )

Thanks Laura for posting the nursery!
Those are 90 hoops, it made a ceiling plan trying to figurate out which color and size will be in a exactly point. Each wire had 5 hoops. The gamma of colors selected for the nursery was light blue, yellow, grey and red with some accents in green and white too. So fabric were bought in those colors and the ceiling plan was carefully selecting the fabric.
    Love,
    Lorena

Great info, thank you Lorena! I love the colors you chose. I myself am not naturally good at putting colors together, but you clearly are. Beautiful! : )
