CRAFT: Geek Crafts

I’ve done my fair share of costume-making over the years, everything from Little Red Riding Hood to the Big Bad Wolf, Elton John to Harry Potter, R2-D2 to The Spy Who Loved His Mommy. And when I run through my repertoire, a decidedly geeky thread shines through. Geek costumes are more interesting, cooler, and just plain fun. So have you gotten your geeky duds on lately?
Here’s a handy roundup of some of the geekiest costumes we’ve featured over the past few years.
One of our more popular posts last year was Goli’s discovery of a Banksy Flower Thrower costume:

Of course, there’s a plethora of Star Wars inspired costumes, for humans and pets, including:
Susan Beal’s amazing Yoda costume

Natalie Zee Drieu’s Ewok costume for her little Lulu:

No geeky costume roundup would be complete without some Katamari goodness:

Diana Eng came up with this cute Lego costume as part of a Quick Kids’ Halloween Costumes round up:

Another popular costume is this amazing Crocheted Viking:

And finally, this cute dog costume, takes us all the way back to 2009, just when the pirate fad was really hitting its stride:

The cuteness of that Yoda costume is irresistible. But I have to say I hold a special place in my heart for Vikings, so that crochet really speaks to me. Rocking my own geek costume at a con last year: http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp133/ladyofnomads/diva2.jpg
And my son’s varied geek dress-up adventures over the last couple years: Crow T. Robot http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp133/ladyofnomads/SDC10127.jpg

Is that the Diva from The Fifth Element? It’s amazing! And we saw a couple of Ghostbusters at a block party last Halloween and the entire family thought it should go on the Future Costumes list. Thanks for sharing these, they’re awesome!
