As part of the Cutural Olympiad, an initiative from Arts Council England for creating pieces that celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games, fiber artist and “crochetdermist” Shauna Richardson created these giant crocheted lions in just under three years, and with 36 miles of wool.
The Yorkshire post has a nice article on artist and her project: The lions are advancing…and they’ve got knitting needles

Known as the Lionheart Project, the sculptures recreate Richard the Lionheart’s three lions crest and have been fixed inside a 52ft illuminated glass case mounted on an HGV trailer to allow them to tour.

Holy cats, indeed!
