We could sure use a few pairs of those gloves up here … it was -37C outside with the wind chill yesterday.
My wife and I made some foot warmers for our bed this winter using scrap jean material filled with rice. We heated them in the microwave and it was wonderful. Great and crafty idea we thought. Plus, it recycled material we already had. However, after a number of uses, the microwave began burning the rice – even with short periods of heating. I first noticed it when I started smelling what I thought was burnt popcorn in the bedroom. However, it was soon easy to tell what was happening because the material became equally scorched as the rice. Ultimately, if left in too long rice and fabric can actually catch on fire…just as popcorn can. So, if you try this be extremely careful your warm toasty gloves don’t inadvertently burn your house down.
Its cooking the rice, so put a cup of water in the microwave when u heat the gloves. the same can be done with wheat grains! And its very effective!!
