I’ve always loved the foreboding intro animation for the game of Donkey Kong. Now you can have the drama of Donkey Kong kidnapping Pauline in bookmark form!

Materials
Black Aida cloth (I prefer 14 count)
DMC floss Numbers 606, 608, 742, 816, 817, 995, 996, 3806, 5200
Scissors
Size 24 blunt needle
Hoop to hold fabric, optional
Directions

I like to cut my fabric so it’s about 2″ wider than the bookmark on each side. After I stitch the design, I like to finish the back of the bookmark this way:

Step 1: The two layers of fabric should overlap slightly at the back. Trim away any excess fabric. (Fig. A)
Step 2: Thread a needle with floss that matches your aida cloth (though I’m using contrasting floss here). Put the needle through top layer of fabric and into bottom layer. (Fig. B)
Step 3: Bring the needle back through the top layer. (Fig. C)
Step 4: Pull the thread through so only small tail is left. (Fig. D)
Step 5: Tie a simple overhand knot (twice to double knot it) with the two pieces of thread. (Fig. E)
Step 6: Cut off loose ends. Repeat 3-4 more times up the folded edge. (Fig. F)

I love this idea! I’m going to try it on vinyl Aida so that I don’t have to hem it.
Love it!!! I am going to make it for my nephew for his birthday – he is a huge fan of reading and Donkey Kong so it is perfect!
