I was *so* tempted to title this “How-To: Be Alone,” but it’s a little too cheeky for this vid’s vibe. This lovely little narrative touches on the happiness of spending time with ones self, something our collective social norms generally fear and frown upon. Using quiet strumming and quirky animated line drawings, we get a sense of the inner life as it plays out when we are left to think and to be, uninterrupted.
Lonely is a freedom that breaths easy and weightless and lonely is healing if you make it.
You can read the full poem here. Written and performed by poet/singer/songwriter, Tanya Davis, and shot in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by director/animator/filmmaker, Andrea Dorfman.

I loved the video. Congratulations!
I’m learning to be alone. It has been scary, sad, and painful at times. Thank you for sharing this. It made me feel a little less alone and a little more hopeful.
This was awesome..
I’m the oldest of 10..
I’m the mother of seven..
And though I’ve never been alone in the physical sense my entire life, I’m often desperately alone in my head.
This was so beautiful, that it got me thinking that maybe, it’s ok to be alone, even if it’s just in my head, sometimes.
Thank you.
It’s easy to be alone. Get a book, sit down, and read!
