With the use of a deep frier and a little liquid nitrogen Instructables Technology Editor Randy Sarafan managed to create a deep fried ice cream sandwich, which he claims is one of the most delicious things he’s ever eaten, and then he generously wrote a tutorial about how he did it.

For those of you East of the Rockies, I should explain. An It’s It is essentially an ice cream sandwich made with oatmeal cookies and covered in a chocolate shell. It is utterly delicious as it is. There is not too much you could do to improve such a regional delicacy; short of deep frying it. Thus, I have decided to deep fry one.

When you’re a sewer or quilter, sometimes a standard ironing board just doesn’t cut it. I’ve always wanted a larger, more useful version for my sewing area, so I’m loving this tutorial for creating a counter-height pressing table with a removable pad from Elizabeth Hartman at Oh, Fransson!

Fantastic Cthulhu Mask

Quirky Montreal artist and fabricator Ian Langohr’s latest creation is this fantastic Cthulhu mask. Over on his website, there’s an enjoyable photo series featuring the mask. I picked my favorites to share here.

Fun fact: Ian finds inspiration in (not surprisingly) horror and fantasy novels and films. But he also enjoys checking out abandoned Montreal factories and watching nature documentaries, like Planet Earth. Want to know more about him? Check out this Craft interview with Ian Langohr from last November.

If you’re curious how one might go about making a mask such as this, you’re in luck! Ian made a sped-up video of the process for his Zombie Cat Mask.

Flashback: Make a Cigar Box Organizer for Father’s Day

Dads are super stars. They’re great at keeping you organized and getting you to school, sports, and your best friend’s birthday party promptly. It’s easy to forget how much they do and it’s time you gave a little back to them, too. This cigar box organizer is great for any type of dad. For the fixer-upper, it makes a great tool kit. The behind-the-desk-dad can fill it with everyday office supplies. You can adjust the compartments to fit his organizational needs.

Even if your dad doesn’t smoke cigars, you can swing by a smoke shop and ask for an empty cigar box. That’s how I got mine. The divider trays are made from chopsticks. And cording or ribbon helps create the upper divider area. Not only do you get extra credit for creating a personalized project, most of the materials are free. You can even decoupage the outside of the box for extra bonus points.

Crafting up an organizer is a great way to tell your dad you love him. Hand over your newly made cigar box and watch his face light up.
