From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted a woodland creature nursery for my baby. I wanted to instill a love for nature and animals in my child from the very beginning, and thought this would be a great start. From the birch tree decals on the walls to the green shag rug that looks like grass on the floor, I enjoyed planning every little detail of this room. My little guy arrived a month early and while the room was pretty much finished, I didn’t have time to finish this last project.
A year and a half later and I’m finally able to say I completed Logan’s nursery. Good thing this room was designed to grow with him through toddlerhood and beyond! I just adore watching Logan point out his new art piece, making the “tweet, tweet” sound, when we play in his room. If you don’t have a nursery to decorate, this woodland monogram art would make for a great office or home décor. Everyone needs a little bird perched on their shelf!

Materials

Instant green moss cloth, found in the floral section of your local craft store
Cutting mat
Paper mache letter, found at Joann’s or your local craft store
Rotary cutter
Hot glue gun
Wooden plaque, found at your local craft store or online at Walnut Hollow.

Directions

Step 1: Lay your moss cloth – moss facing down – on a cutting mat. Place your letter face down on the moss cloth, and using the rotary cutter, cut around the letter. Leave enough moss to cover the sides of the letter.


Step 2: Adhere the moss cloth to the letter using hot glue. I found that the easiest way to wrap the letter in moss is to add hot glue to the front of the letter and attach the letter to the moss. Wrap the sides in moss, cutting slits around the corners or curves of the letter to allow the moss to sit flat. Fill in any bald spots with tiny pieces of moss cloth – the pieces should blend in together.


Step 3: Cover the back of the letter with hot glue and attach it to the center of the wooden plaque. Hold it in place for a few seconds to ensure a strong bond.

Step 4: Attach the woodland creature on top of the letter using hot glue.

Step 5: Display your woodland monogram art on a shelf or attach a hook to the back to hang on your wall.
