I too have an older machine with no buttonhole settings. In fact, no-one I know has a machine with buttonhole settings; they all have machines handed down from mothers and grandmothers. So can we please, please have a tutorial on making buttonholes with older machines?
Matt
Hey,
I did find out this week that there is a button hole tutorial in my Bernina manual -> http://www.berninausa.com/news_detail-n486-i2238-sUS.html (thaks bernina for having it online – I only had a manual in French – I’m from Belgium – so that’s not so strange)
My machine is the Bernina 730, and on page 42 they explain how to make a button hole with this machine

It does not seem very simple – and it would be truly fabulous if someone could do a contemporary version.
