Open Beam is an open ended construction system composed of aluminum extrusions, standard metric hardware, and ABS joining plates. It is used to build CNC machines, 3D printers, time lapse photography rigs, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I first discovered Open Beam while doing research for my own CNC machine.

The creator of Open Beam, Terence Tam, successfully funded it with Kickstarter this past summer. After being so happy with the product I contacted Terence for an interview. He graciously took time out of his busy schedule to speak with me about OpenBeam, how an engineer cooks a turkey, and lessons learned from running a Kickstarter project.
