Warmer winter cycling

Probably only a mockup, but such a wonderfully weird idea that I wanted to share. From Momentum:

Iron Saddle
Who hasn’t suffered from ‘cold butt’ while riding in winter, at least in the northern parts of the continent?… A battery, a 12 volt iron (without steam option) and voila! Toasty Buns! And of course if you are truly nimble you can iron your clothes while you ride.

I have a friend who stitched extra-flexible wire into his motorcycle inner jacket, and connected it up to the bike’s 12V electrical system. he calculated the resistance per metre f the wire, so that the current drawn was not excessive. And now he has a heated bike jacket for the winter! Only looks a bit odd when you spot the power connector dangling from his side when he’s not on the bike…

Not just toasty buns, but roasted nuts too!

Sure way to get the wrinkles out of your change purse….

Q: “Who hasn’t suffered from ‘cold butt’ while riding in winter, at least in the northern parts of the continent?”

A: Anyone riding a bicycle is not suffering from ‘cold butt’. Even in temperatures well below freezing, because the power of the bike comes from working your butt muscles, and all that exercising generates heat, and lots of it, (especially if you’re lugging that 12V battery around! :) ‘cold butt’ is an affliction of those using motorised transport.

(I’ve found that the misconception that you get would cold if riding a bike in the cold, comes from people who don’t ride bikes in the cold)

Replace that iron with an AC and then we’re talking! :-)
